Privacy policy
Paceway works without an account, without a server, and without analytics. This document describes exactly what the app does with data — and what it does not do.
Who is behind the app
Paceway is a personal project. If you send an e-mail, the author is the one handling that message. The app itself never collects contact details.
Location
While monitoring is on, the app receives location updates from the system in order to recognise that you are approaching an average-speed enforcement section, to detect start-gate and end-gate crossings, and to compute your estimated speed and average.
All of that happens on the device. Location is never uploaded, shared, or stored as a trail. When you turn monitoring off, the app stops receiving location updates.
You control location access in iOS Settings and can revoke it at any time. Without it the app cannot monitor sections, and it says so plainly.
Drive history
After a measured section completes, the app stores locally: the section identifier and name, road number, direction, entry and exit times, duration, section length, speed limit, the estimated average, and the dataset version.
It does not store the coordinates of your drive or any representation of the route you took.
The history file lives in the app’s private container on your iPhone. You can delete a single drive or the entire history from inside the app; deleting the app removes everything.
CSV export
You can export your history to a CSV file. This happens only when you explicitly ask for it, through the system share sheet. Once you choose a destination, that file is in your hands and in the hands of the service you picked.
Section data
The catalog of average-speed sections ships inside the app and works offline. The current version does not download it.
If a future version downloads a catalog update, it would be a plain static file request. Such a request would carry neither your location nor your history, and this document would be updated before that feature ships.
What the app does not do
- No user account and no sign-in.
- No advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs.
- No events, device identifiers, or coordinates sent anywhere.
- No sharing or selling of data to third parties.
- No access requested to contacts, photos, microphone, or health data.
Audio and speech
Alerts are spoken by the iOS speech synthesiser. The app ducks other audio for the length of an announcement. It never records audio and never uses the microphone.
Backups
Drive history is an ordinary file in the app container, so it can be included in your iPhone backup (iCloud or computer) if you have backups enabled. That is an iOS setting under your control.
App Store privacy labels
As long as the app transmits no data off the device, its App Store declaration is "Data Not Collected". Changing that behaviour would require updating this document and the labels in App Store Connect.
This website
This site is static. It sets no cookies and embeds no third-party content or analytics scripts. The hosting provider may keep standard server logs needed to serve the pages.
Children
Paceway is a tool for drivers and is not directed at children. It knowingly collects no data from children — or from anyone else.
Changes
If the app ever handles data differently, this document is updated in the same change and the date below moves with it.
